Use the information in the links above to help you compare Texas cable companies, compare Texas phone companies, compare Texas Internet, and more. When comparing Texas cable companies and the like, many report finding it a good idea to open two separate windows or tabs, to toggle between both reviews. Another tip many have suggested keeping in mind - when you compare Texas phone companies, keep in mind that basically all of them are multi-state providers, with rather cookie-cutter packages (whereas Texas cable companies tend to be more responsive to what their local markets demand in the way of programming, features etc.)  If you find some Texas phone companies almost look exactly alike, well, that probably has a lot to do with it.

 Editor's Pick FAQ:
"What is/How do I use Digital Phone Service (VOiP)?"

Digital Phone (VOiP)

Digital Phone Service (VOIP) Helps You Avoid the Frustration of a Conventional Phone Line.

Voice Over Internet Protocol is a great way to make the most out of having a land line telephone in your home or business. That's because even though VOIP technology- as it's known for short- was originally developed as a way of using the Internet to get around tolls on long distance phone calls, newer services provide a lot of features that make it a good alternative to all types of phone calls. In fact, the new types of digital phone service available can make it so that you can do away with having a conventional land based phone line altogether!

The idea of getting rid of a conventional land based phone line has a lot of appeal to a lot of people. This is especially true for anyone who's watched their phone bills go up over the past decade or so. Part of the reason for the increase is caused by the fact there are more useful features that can be added onto a phone line than there ever have been before. These are things that make communicating over the phone so much more convenient and safer like caller ID, call waiting, and call forwarding among others. But even if you try to go with a basic phone line without all of the bells and whistles, you'll still probably find that it costs a lot more than you would think.

One thing that's extremely aggravating is that the costs for a basic phone line are itemized in such a way on the bill that it's not unusual for about half of the fees to be associated with taxes of various sorts. When you look at digital phone service though, they offer calling plans that cost about the same amount as a basic phone line from a conventional phone line, but with a big difference. All of the extra services that cost so much more from a conventional phone line are included in that cost. In addition, most digital phone service plans also include unlimited domestic long distance. With all of these benefits to going with  digital phone service, it may be tempting to stick it to the old phone company by dropping your conventional phone line in order to make the switch.

While this is definitely an attractive option, and probably the best one for a lot of people, there are some things to take into account before making the plunge. Perhaps the most major thing that you need to consider before making the switch to a digital phone service provider is that you need a high speed Internet connection in order to do it. Of course, that's what would allow you to drop your conventional phone line completely, but not all high speed Internet technologies are created equally. For example, even though high speed Internet service over satellite is fast, because the signal has to travel back and forth from satellites,  on slower plans there can be a noticeable time lag that could make digital phone service extremely frustrating to use over such a connection. Another thing that could make it so that you can't trade up from your old phone line to digital phone service is if you still get your high speed Internet service over a landline-tied DSL connection. Even though DSL is plenty fast enough for digital phone service, it sometimes requires a landline-tied phone line in order to function. The best type of Internet service for use with digital phone service is broadband cable. That's because broadband cable is always on, doesn't have a time lag, and doesn't rely on old landline phone lines. Therefore, with broadband cable, you can almost always stick it to the traditional phone company when going with digital phone service.

Digital Phone Is Clearly A Huge Improvement Over Technologies Of The Past

Get a Communication Advantage with Digital Phone Service .

Every once in a while a type of technology comes along that's truly superior to those that came before it. This is the technology that provides you with more freedom, makes better at what you do, and saves you time and money in the process. Digital phone service is clearly this type of technology.

VOIP is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol, and it's actually been around for a number of years as a way to make long distance phone calls with reduced long distance charges, and in some cases, even for free. It takes advantage of the fact that there aren't any long distance fees for sending information over the Internet no matter how far that information travels. VOIP technology essentially converts a phone conversation into data that can be streamed back and forth over the Internet, without loss of clarity or any noticeable delay in the transmission. Now digital phone technology has matured to the point where there are several services that offer it not only as an alternative to long distance phone service, but local phone service as well.

There are a number of benefits to using digital phone technology in your home or business. The most basic benefit is that if you have a broadband cable Internet connection anyway, this technology will allow you to use it to make your phone calls and avoid the fees associated with having a normal landline altogether. (DSL service will work as well, but sometimes doesn't eliminate the need for an old-school phone line). The other advantages come from the degree of control over how you use the telephone that modern digital phone technology gives you. For example, most of these services include many of the features that you pay extra for from conventional phone companies in . These features include call Waiting, Caller ID, Voice Mail, Call Forwarding, and much more. Plus, digital phone service makes it even more convenient by allowing you to change the parameters of all of these features simply by logging onto a website.

One great example of digital phone service flexibility can be seen with Call Forwarding for business numbers. If you're away visiting relatives, you can have all of the calls to your business number forwarded to the number that you're staying at. If you're expecting a really important call, it's sometimes possible to have that call forwarded to all of the phones that you could possibly be near. That way, when someone calls your business number, all of the phones on your list ring simultaneously until someone picks one of them up or the voice mail kicks in. You can also have calls forwarded to different phones in a set sequence which is a great option for providing support for the customers of your small business.

Digital phone service also changes how many of the rules that have previously governed phone services behave. For instance, now not only can you get extra lines added to your account, but you can also have the numbers of those lines in different area codes from the one you live in or operate your business in. For example, if you do business near a state line and have a lot of clients in that other state, it would be a courtesy to them to have a number in their area code. This would also obviously give you a competitive advantage over other businesses in your state and put you on par with the businesses operating right across the state line.

Back with the home number, if you have a heavy concentration of relatives in one area, it would also be much easier for them to call you if you had a phone number with their area code. With all of these advantages, digital phone technology is clearly a huge improvement over phone technologies of the past.
